I create art to renew my soul and refresh my mind.
– MARIA PAOLA
I grew up in Mexico City, fortunately surrounded by nature. We regularly spend the weekend at a lovely place near a lake. My children play outside, we swim, do sports and eat the local food that is a real treat! When I was still in school, my father took us to travel Europe, where my love for the arts and for different cultures flourished. I loved esthetics and beauty. Always doodling (and yes, daydreaming) in class, I focused towards an illustration and graphic design career.
Shortly after graduating in Graphic Design, I started painting watercolors for a furniture designer. I kept up with acrylics too, and then started to receive painting commissions aside from the store, for both projects.
When I got married, we travelled to Asia. I just fell in love with he people, the spirit, the culture…so rich and different. I started doing yoga and painting landscapes.
As a Mexican woman, I have always believed in supporting local artists and their crafts.
I like to promote and enhance the richness of such a vibrant and unique culture. In addition, If I can help others and be a part of strong, yet good-willed communities, my children will hopefully follow.
l worked as a designer for a magazine, and then decided to teach art to children. My first boy and then my little girl appeared shortly after. I kept up with the painting-at-home scenario and since it was so much fun, I opened my Art in English Workshop.
I kept longing to establish myself as a plastic artist as well, so I decided to close the Ateliér and kept developing my painting skills. My lovely baby boy came after long 9 years, and I returned to painting workshops with the nicest, most cultivated artist, Homero Santamaria. He teaches Mixed media at Escuela Nishizawa de Pintura, at the renowned UNAM University, in Mexico City. These lessons gave me the push and courage I needed to call myself a fine artist.
I now focus solely on my art, and my goal is to soon participate in more exhibitions and teach painting workshops involving philanthropic causes.
My work has been shown in expositions and galleries in Mexico, and is being showcased in different Interior Design projects throughout the Country. I have representations in Mexico and in Europe.
